The RockShox Monarch rear shock is not remote upgrade-able. You will not be able to use any RockShox remotes with this shock as an upgrade. We do offer a Monarch XX rear shock that comes equipped with an XLoc hydraulic remote lock out. And he doesn't see any reason he would need a true lockout (if so, he would ride his HT). I was also told by a LBS that adjusting the rebound dial on the Monarch RL will help with stiffening the suspension.
